Italy beat Turkey 2-1 in this Euro 2000 Group B match thanks only to a controversial penalty awarded to and scored by striker Filippo Inzaghi in the 70th minute. Inzaghi went down in the penalty area as he and Turkish captain Temizkenoglu Ogun both chased a through ball, Scottish referee Hugh Dallas harshly ruling that Inzaghi had been elbowed. Enraged Turkish fans pelted the pitch with plastic bottles. Italy had taken the lead in the 52nd minute when Antonio Conte scored with an overhead kick after Inzaghi's cross was only partially cleared by Alpay Ozalan. Turkey equalised in the 61st when Okan Buruk headed home a Sergen Yalcin free kick to score Turkey's first ever goal at a European Championship finals.

Italy's goalkeeper Toldo came for ball and missed.	- 1.5 MB - 3.0 MB - 3.2 MB Conte (52') (0-1). He scored with an overhead kick 10 metres out after cross by Inzaghi was only partially cleared by Alpay.
	- 1.3 MB - 2.6 MB - 2.7 MB Penalty to Italy on 70'. A harshly awarded penalty after Inzaghi was nudged by Ogun in the penalty area.
	- 1.2 MB - 2.4 MB - 2.4 MB Inzaghi (70', pen.) (1-2). Inzaghi scored from the penalty spot low to Rustu's right.
