Norway beat group C favourites Spain 1-0 thanks to a second-half header from Steffen Iversen. A superb jump in the 65th minute saw Iversen reach the ball before Spanish goalkeeper Francisco Molina and his header looped into the net. Spain, who have a long history of under-performing at major tournaments, had the lion's share of possession but their comparative lack of height, and a failure to make the final pass count, meant they had few clear chances. Raul should have scored shortly before halftime when free in the Norwegian box but pulled his shot wide.
