In one of the most amazing games in European Championship history, Spain scored two goals in stoppage time to beat Yugoslavia 4-3, a result which sees both teams going through to the quarter-finals. Spain, needing to win, looked down and out when they trailed 3-2 going into five minutes of time added on. But a Gaizka Mendieta penalty followed by Alfonso's last-gasp winner sent them through. Yugoslavia also went through as Norway could only draw 0-0 with Slovenia. Spain fought back three times after going behind. Savo Milosevic got his fourth goal of the tournament for Yugoslavia in the 31st minute but Alfonso levelled eight minutes later. Dejan Govedarica put the Yugoslavs ahead again in the 51st but Pedro Munitis equalised within a minute. Yugoslavia went 3-2 up through Slobodan Komljenovic in the 75th minute, 12 minutes after Slavisa Jokanovic was dismissed, the third time Yugoslavia had a player sent off in three games.
