Italy advanced to the semifinals of Euro 2000 with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Romania whose captain Gheorghe Hagi brought his career to an unfortunate end by being sent off for diving. Francesco Totti scored the first goal in the 33rd minute and Filippo Inzaghi made it two 10 minutes later in a match dominated by the Italians. Romania fought back hard in a bruising battle but their threat ended when 35-year-old playmaker Hagi, playing in his 125th and last international, was sent off in the 59th minute after being shown two yellow cards in five minutes, first for a foul then for a dive in the box. Italy will play either Netherlands or Yugoslavia in Thursday's semifinal in Amsterdam.
