Italy reached the Euro 2000 final when they beat the Netherlands 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw after extra time. Italy won after their goalkeeper Francesco Toldo saved two of ths spot kicks from Dutch captain Frank de Boer and Paul Bosvelt. Jaap Stam blazed one over the bar. The Dutch missed two penalties in normal time with the Italians down to 10 men for most of the match after midfielder Ginaluca Zambrotta was sent off in the 33rd minute for a second yellow card. Toldo saved De Boer's earlier spot kick and Patrick Kluivert hit a post. Italy play France in Sunday's final in Rotterdam.
